Hints of violets and mint perfume the nose of the 2017 Crozes Hermitage Caprice, a selection of the estate’s oldest vines. Aged in older barrels, this full-bodied, creamy-textured wine is a beauty, loaded with blueberries and floral notes and finishing silky and long. It should drink well for at least 4-5 years.

The medium-bodied 2016 Crozes Hermitage Caprice comes from the oldest vines of this small domaine and is aged 10-12 months in older barrels. It shows lovely herbal-peppery complexities on the nose, then supple, creamy red fruit on the palate. Drinkable and complex, this wine is in tune with modern sensibilities but with genuine Syrah character and a long, silky
finish..

It’s shame there are only two barrels of the 100% Marsanne 2016 Hermitage Arpege Blanc, because it is a knockout. Honey and toasted almond notes highlight peach and melon flavors in this full-bodied, creamy-textured beauty. The lush fruit works in perfect concert with the restrained oak and ample weight to yield a wine with lovely harmony and tremendous length.

A solid effort, the 2013 Crozes Hermitage Caprice offers plenty of black currants, wood smoke and tar in a medium-bodied, fresh, lively and relatively forward style. Aged ten months in three- to six-year-old barrels, it’s a good effort in a dificult vintage and will drink nicely over the coming 4-6 years.
